Follow the locks and footbridges, then branch towards Jardin Villemin and Place Sainte-Marthe. This shorter loop combines the canal with neighbourhood streets instead of staying only beside the water.

The banks attract visitors in fine weather. Continuing to Bassin de la Villette makes a longer outing. You do not need a boat-navigation timetable to enjoy the lock landscape.
