The steps

  1. Pont-Neuf

Start on Paris’s oldest surviving bridge and observe the two branches of the Seine around Île de la Cité.

  2. Pont des Arts

Follow the quay west, then cross the footbridge to compare perspectives towards the Louvre and Institut de France.

  3. Left Bank quays

Return towards the centre along the quays, leaving time for the booksellers and façades.

  4. The islands’ bridges

Finish near Île Saint-Louis. Choose a bank for the light and avoid lower banks that are closed or slippery.

Use the crossings to compare perspectives

Compare views from Pont-Neuf and Pont des Arts, then follow one bank towards the islands. The outing centres on crossings and views without a compulsory indoor visit.

A shorter version

For about an hour, link Pont-Neuf, Pont des Arts and nearby quays. Island bridges extend the walk if you want a different profile of the Seine.
