The steps

  1. Passage Verdeau

Start among booksellers and antique shops, then head towards Passage Jouffroy beneath the glass roofs.

  2. Passage des Panoramas

Cross the narrower galleries and choose a sheltered break near the Grands Boulevards.

  3. BnF Richelieu

Choose Salle Ovale, the museum or an exhibition according to your time and the admission conditions.

  4. Galerie Vivienne

Finish under its glass roof before reaching Palais-Royal’s arcades.

Expect outdoor links between passages

Covered passages make rainy walking more pleasant, but do not form one continuous enclosed gallery. Prepare BnF Richelieu as an indoor pause under its current visitor conditions.

A shorter version

Stay between Verdeau, Jouffroy and Panoramas if time is tight. Continuing to Richelieu and Galerie Vivienne adds outdoor walking.

Areas connected to this walk

  • Grands Boulevards — Around the Grands Boulevards, covered passages offer sheltered stretches among mosaics, glass roofs, booksellers and older shopfronts. They are a useful walking option in uncertain weather.
  • Montorgueil and Le Sentier — Rue Montorgueil and nearby Le Sentier link food shopping, older textile courtyards and discreet passages. The atmosphere changes quickly between Les Halles and the Grands Boulevards.
  • Châtelet and Les Halles — Between Jardin Nelson-Mandela, Saint-Eustache and the older streets, this area reveals centuries of change above a major transport interchange.
