The steps

  1. Place de Stalingrad

Start near the rotunda and look north along the basin. Choose the bank that suits the sunlight and crowd levels.

  2. Basin quays

Follow a quay without trying to cover everything. Terraces and bridges allow a change of bank and views of boats and neighbourhood activity.

  3. Rue de Crimée lifting bridge

Pause near the bridge to observe the transition from basin to Canal de l’Ourcq. Stay on pedestrian routes during manoeuvres.

  4. Parc de la Villette

Continue towards the lawns and choose a visit from the day’s programme. Check venue hours before planning entry.

Treat cultural visits as optional branches

The basin, lifting bridge and park form a continuous waterside progression. Cultural institutions are optional variations with their own programmes.

A shorter version

Walk around the basin as far as Pont de Crimée. Continue to the park only if you want a longer outing.
