Stairs, studios and open views
Montmartre
Montmartre reveals more of its character away from its busiest approach. Arriving through Lamarck–Caulaincourt lets you gradually reach the gardens, studios and viewpoints of the hill.

Approach through residential streets
From Lamarck–Caulaincourt, approach the hill through its residential streets. Continue past Musée de Montmartre, Rue de l’Abreuvoir and the gardens before reaching the best-known viewpoints.
Plan for slopes and steps
Stairs and gradients matter as much as distance. For a flexible walk, choose one side of the hill in advance and check museum admission separately from the outdoor walk.
Useful questions
Does a Montmartre walk require a ticket?
Walking through streets and public spaces is separate from indoor visits. Musée de Montmartre, the basilica and any dome ascent have their own conditions; do not confuse them with the hill walk.
